Chicagoland Pokémon TCG - Battle of the Locals

Compete in the inaugural Chicagoland Battle of the Locals! Represent your local store and get some practice in before the 2024-2025 Pokémon TCG season begins.

In this Standard format tournament, all participants will play in several rounds of Swiss via Pokémon TCG Live (exact number of rounds to be determined based on participation). After the Swiss rounds are complete, the highest-placement player for each store will move on to the Single Elimination rounds. During the Single Elimination rounds, players are encouraged to talk with the rest of their store’s players to determine the best plays to make in each round (e.g. over Discord, in person at the store, etc.).

The tournament will be coordinated in the Chicagoland Pokémon TCG Discord server. This server has historically been geared towards collectors, but we’re looking to bridge the gap between the collector “world” and the competitive “world” as part of this tournament!

Prizing

• First place will receive 3 booster boxes, with the store they represent receiving a booster box as well. Each additional player in the winning store’s team will also receive 3 booster packs and 10 additional TCGL booster codes.
• Second place will receive 2 booster boxes. Each additional player in the second place team will receive 6 additional TCGL booster codes.
• Third and fourth place will receive half a box each. Each additional player in the third and fourth place teams will receive 3 additional TCGL booster codes.
• All players who reach single elimination will receive 5 TCGL booster codes.

Additional prizing is possible based on entered players, including:

• 48 players: all top 4 teams get an extra pack per player, on top of above prizing
• 64 players: all top 8 teams get an extra pack per player, on top of above prizing and previous milestone
• 96 players: all top 16 teams get an extra pack per player, on top of above prizing and previous milestones
• 128 players: all players get 2 booster packs, regardless of placement and on top of above prizing and previous milestones

Booster boxes are of the recipient’s choice, with all Scarlet & Violet main expansions available.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t currently play at a store, what should I do?

• Select a store near you! You can go to the Play! Pokémon Store Locator to find a nearby store if you’re not sure. This may be where you’ll pick up any prizing, so be sure it’s somewhere you can get to.

My store isn’t listed! How do I register?

• If the store you want to compete for isn’t listed, please contact us; stores must be part of the Play! Pokémon program (or working to be part of it) to be eligible.

I don’t (currently) live in the Chicagoland area, can I still play?

• Yes – though keep in mind that prizing may be for pickup at your selected store, so you would have to get to that store (or have a friend go in your place).

Will this be streamed?

• We’d love to stream at least the final match(es)! Since this is an online tournament, though, the ability to stream will depend on the competitors’ setups, so no guarantees. Any stream would be viewable at Twitch.tv/ChicagoPkmn. If you’re interested in commentating, please contact us!
